Publicis’ Annette King named chair of first creative industries government board
Annette King, the chief executive of Publicis Groupe UK, has been named chair of the Creative Industries Trade and Investment Board (CITIB), a new advisory group set up by the UK government.
The formation of the board was announced in March as part of the Creative Industries Sector Deal, which was brokered by the Creative Industries Council. It has been tasked with recommending long-term strategies for the government’s trade and investment policy from the point of view of 17 different sectors.
These include advertising, design, fashion, film, gaming, music, performing arts and digital/technology. Other board members include the Advertising Association’s chief executive, Stephen Woodford, British Fashion Council CEO Caroline Rush, and British Film Institute CEO Amanda Nevill.
Janet Hull, IPA’s director of marketing strategy, also sits on the board as an independent member.
The board’s goal is to deliver a three-year export strategy to ensure that the UK’s creative resources are targeted at markets with the greatest opportunity. It will develop and oversee delivery of an export strategy and explore, support and advise on high-value opportunities for both inward and foreign direct investment.
King has been appointed for her experience running a business spanning creative, media, healthcare and digital transformation.
Tim Davie, BBC Studios’ chief executive, took over as chair of the Creative Industries Council from Facebook’s Nicola Mendelsohn earlier this year.
“I’m delighted Annette has accepted the invitation to chair the Trade and Investment Board,” he said. “This is a vital part of the landmark sector deal to increase creative exports and the number of business exporting from across the country.
“I’m confident she will do a fantastic job of championing the whole of the UK creative industries and I look forward to supporting her from the Creative Industries Council.”
King said: “Creativity is the UK’s calling card to the world; our reputation for ideas, flair, talent and imagination sitting alongside our rich cultural heritage and cutting-edge creative companies.
“I’m honoured to have been asked by Tim to take the position of chair on the CITIB and look forward to working with the talented and committed board members from across the sector to meet this target.”
