Ron Burgundy returns in iHeartMedia podcast with ads that are definitely not brand safe
Will Ferrell has reprised his role as Anchorman’s Ron Burgundy in an exclusive podcast for iHeartMedia.
The out-of-touch news host will delve into the world of audio anchoring in a two-season podcast for the media company, also produced by comedy site Funny or Die.
Financing the output is Burgundy’s cold readings of sponsors including Fair, Charmin and Safe Auto Insurance. Burgundy’s stream of consciousness clearly won’t be particularly brand-safe but the reprisal of this titular character is likely to attract audiences.
Safe Auto Insurance’s 35-second spot sees Burgundy talk about driving around in an unlicensed, uninspected, uninsured car. “Safe Auto won’t get your car inspected or get you a licence but they will get you insured, which, I guess is something you have to do.”
Car subscription app Fair loses points for not being able to source him a 1970 Mercury Cougar. “Don’t Buy a Car, Fair a car, hey it’s a verb,” he concludes.
And finally, Burgundy explains how Charmin helps him in the bathroom. “I reach for Charmin’s ultrasoft toilet paper because like I tell the ladies I am an ultrasofty and when I get my heart broken, I need something to soak up those tears.”
Media dinosaur Burgundy goes through a series of revelations, discovery the pros and cons of the podcasting medium. it could serve as a stealth promotion for a third Anchorman movie down the line.
The Ron Burgundy podcast airs on Thursdays, episode two lands this week.
