The BBC has continued the tapestry aesthetic of its World Cup coverage into the poster medium, revealing a print giving thanks to all 23 players in the England squad.
‘Pride of a Nation’ elongates the insignia immortalised by the lyric ‘three lions on a shirt’ to comprise 23 lions – or the 23 England players who made it to fourth place in the 2018 World Cup.
The copy below reads: ‘Pride of a nation. Well done England’, accompanied by an embroidered version of the BBC Sport and Russia 2018 logos.
The tapestry featured in the poster is a follow-on from the broadcaster’s hero World Cup film. ‘History Will Be Made’ was an elaborate production, with the in-house creative team sketching each frame before turning them all into pieces of embroidered fabric.
England were knocked out of the competition on Wednesday (11 July) and lost the third-place play-off to Belgium yesterday (14 July). Much of the team’s success has been pinned on manager Gareth Southgate and his ‘lucky’ M&S waistcoat.
